When I left Alaska ten years ago, I swore I’d never be back. Never, it turns out, is today. My childhood best friend needs someone to take care of his small kids. Since I’m in between jobs, I agree to help. But only for a little while.
And I will not, under absolutely any circumstances, spend time with my best friend’s brother. The one who got away. The one who broke my heart. The one who, unfortunately, time has been really, really good to.

After Delta left, I threw myself into work. My job, while difficult, never let me down. Women, on the other hand, will leave you gutted. So when I find out she’s back in town, I do everything in my power to avoid her. Which isn’t easy when she’s caring for my niece and nephew.
But a broken boat motor and an injured animal have other plans. When we end up stuck together out on the choppy waters along the coast I love, we have no choice but to work together. It quickly becomes clear that absence has made the heart fonder. But can we trust our hearts again?
