Ashley:

I’ve never forgotten his handsome, smirking face. I just kind of thought I’d never see it again.

If you’ve ever had poison ivy, you know how torturous it can be. Incredibly painful, incredibly itchy, and, in my case, incredibly embarrassing. I don’t even want to tell you where my rash is. This is between me and my doctor – and my nosy best friend Tara, I guess.

It didn’t even occur to me that I might end up with a dreamy doctor gazing suggestively up at me while examining my inflamed … area. Or that the cool application of ointment could be so stimulating and yet so uncomfortable.

But it really didn’t occur to me that my doctor might be Malcom Werther, my childhood obsession, whom I haven’t seen in years and years. Selfish, inscrutable Malcolm, who used to tease me so mercilessly.

I can see from his smirk and his swagger that the irresistible Mal hasn’t changed a bit. It’s just another joke at ol’ Ashley’s expense, only this time, I’m not going to put up with it.

Malcolm:

As a teenager, I knew all too well that there’s more than one way to take advantage of a girl. Maybe now I can make up for being less than a gentleman.

When I bought up all the hospitals in the Florida Panhandle, I knew there was a chance I’d run into Ashley again. I won’t say it was the reason I’ve relocated from England, but I wasn’t exactly dismayed at the thought.

So when she comes into one of my hospitals, I can’t be expected to pass up the chance to pay her exam room a visit. And when I see why she’s come … well, I can’t let just anyone examine her.

Of course, I can’t let her slip away blushing, either. Maybe I’m coming on too strong, but what can I say? There’s no chance in hell that my beautiful little Ashley will turn me down.
