Nutcracker.

That’s what they call him, my dad’s best friend and lifelong business partner. He’s one tough boss, but what’s really tough on both of us is when my father tragically passes away a month before Christmas, joining my mom in heaven.

He gives me a job to keep my mind occupied, and watch over me. But when I see the way he’s watching me at the office Christmas party, it’s the first time I know this is so much more than a job. And it’s the first time I might have the chance to give him the gift I’ve been saving just for him.

It may be cold outside, but things heat up inside the office Christmas party, causing my boss to step in and get bossy, reminding some nut why he’s known as Nutcracker.

And letting each and every person know I’m off limits to everyone…but him.
