If any other person were in Grace’s place, they would have ignored the mysterious letter that reached Ormond castle. However, when Grace reads about the hardships her distant aunt and her clan are facing, she feels like she must go to their aid. As soon as she steps foot in the infamous lands, she understands why people insist that this place is haunted. Most people are not even sure if Simon is still alive, but Grace is determined not only to find the man but also to convince him to come back and claim his Lairdship.
Finding the lost man is not as easy as Grace thought, and when she first meets him, she feels that she has encountered some kind of monster. Taller and stronger than any other person she has ever seen or heard of in legends, Simon seems able to defeat an army by himself! However, for an unknown reason, he is discouraged, and even after hearing about his older brother’s death, Simon is not willing to return.

Trying to know him better feels like trying to break through a mass of solid stone, but Grace is determined to do whatever it takes to bring him back and get to the bottom of this absurd mess.
However, when Simon finally decides to descend from the mountains, tragedies begin to unfold. Grace has always been bad at taking advice, but the words of her sister Mary now echo in her head; “Dinnae be so trusting, Gracie…” And for the first time in her life, Grace wishes she would have listened to her.
