Here Be Dragons by Michael Murphy

It’s hate at first sight when out and proud Jeremiah Rogers first meets his temporary work partner, Sterling Johansen – in the middle of telling a homophobic joke. Jeremiah was supposed to be on vacation, cruising the Caribbean with 3,000 other gay men, but at the last minute he’d been sent to the mid-west office to help out in a crisis. He didn’t want to be there, and he wasn’t looking forward to spending eight brutally hot summer weeks stuck with Sterling Johansen, driving all over the mid-west. As Jeremiah contends with being there against his will, the heat, a myriad of problem work sites, Sterling’s fickle moods, driving hundreds of miles between every job, and the daily threat of Mother Nature, every day he wants to throw in the towel. But he hangs in there, determined to finish the assignment, get the hell out of these, and make his boss pay for pulling his much-deserved vacation out from under him at the very last possible second. But when disaster strikes, everything is thrown up into the air once again, this time literally, giving Jeremiah new insight into what makes Sterling tick.
